Rarity Variants. Multiple versions of items, with rarer ones possessing greater power, open up new avenues for storytelling. Or maybe a warlock’s growing bond to its patron causes its badass aboleth-leather jacket (broodmother’s embrace) to sprout new tentacles at a certain player level, blooming into a more deadly variant.
